Icon Audio Introduce MB150 Mono Block Power Amplifiers

Following on from the huge success of the MB90 and MB845 mono amplifiers, David Shaw, founder of Icon Audio, has designed the new MB150 to combine the beautiful musicality of valve amplification with massive power delivery to produce an amplifier that is capable of driving even the most inefficient and quirky of loudspeakers. In common with all Icon Audio amplifiers, the MB150 is hand-built, and features a point-to-point silver-wired circuit. The class A triode front end is inspired by the Leak “TL” designs and uses the classic 1940s designed 6SN7 driver & phase splitter valves. The output uses four KT90 tetrodes, operating in parallel push-pull configuration. A front panel mounted switch selects between two modes of operation: all-triode, which produces 100 Watts, or ultra-linear, which produces 150 Watts. A combination of carefully selected modern and classic audiophile components together with custom hand-wound transformers complete the design an exquisitely musical amplifier that is sure to delight the senses. The Icon Audio MB150s are sold in pairs for stereo use. The use of entirely separate left and right channel amplifiers, together with the massive power on tap produces a life-size soundstage. Musical instruments and voices are revealed in their correct tonal colours, with the tension, drama and power intact allowing the very best performances to be relived over and over again. Icon Audio offer a range of upgrade options including “Jenson” copper foil in paper and oil capacitors and both premium and N.O.S valves.
